Formulation of floating metronidazole microbeads using Terminalia mantaly gum as polymer

gum was extracted and characterized by material, proximate pasting properties.Terminalia in combination with sodium alginate at varying concentrations(0-80 %w/v) used preparing the microbeads ionotropic gelation using zincchloride as chelating agent. The were evaluated shape,size, swelling, buoyancy, entrapment efficiency, drug release profiles andkinetic modelling. spherical to ovoid shape sizesranging from 1093 1209.0 µm. swelling index 5 184 % itincreased an increase concentration. Total floating time highest(175.5 h) for formulations having 20% w/w least(5.5 those 80% gum. efficiency generally increased gumconcentration up 40% then reduced. showedcontrolled patterns of metronidazole highest t50 2260.3. kineticsfitted Korsmeyer-Peppas model a non-Fickian anomalous diffusion mechanism. Terminalia mantaly can be furtherdeveloped use co-polymer formulation metronidazolemicrobeads.
